Venckienė, a former judge and now a representative of the Path of Courage Party, is suspected of five criminal acts, including failure to abide by a court ruling to hand over a girl she fostered to her mother, the girl's psychological frustration, the abuse of foster's rights, the use of physical force against a police officer and the obstruction of duties of a bailiff.

Pursuant to the Seimas Statute, following a request from the prosecutor general to lift an MP's immunity, parliament sets up an ad hoc commission which drafts a resolution on granting or refusing the request.
