Over half Lithuanians skeptical about euro

40 percent of people in Lithuania are in favor of the European Economic and Monetary Union with a single currency, the euro, and 52 percent are against, the results of a new Eurobarometer survey has revealed.

8 percent of those surveyed in Lithuania said they had no opinion on the issue.

Over half (51 percent) of Europeans are in favor of the single currency, with 62 percent favoring the euro in eurozone members and 29 percent in non-euro countries.

The Eurobarometer survey was carried out on May 10-26. All in all, 32,694 people in EU member states and candidate countries took part in the survey and 1,029 people were surveyed in Lithuania.
