Politicians, who have already investigated VSD activities left with questions regarding V. Bakas’ actions: inquiries could end badly

The State Security Department (VSD), over whose activities member of Seimas Vytautas Bakas is urging to launch a parliamentary inquiry and is asking to have its heads dismissed, is not at the centre of politicians’ attention for the first time. Similarly its activities were investigated after intelligence officer Vytautas Pociūnas’ death and when investigating whether a CIA jail operated in Lithuania. Politicians, who participated in these parliamentary inquiries, see no major crime here, but some note that the intelligence branch still faces “eternally exploding woes” and believe that it needs different oversight.
