Demographic changes in 2020: more residents in Lithuania, but increased mortality rate

On Thursday, the Department of Statistics introduced the main demographic indicators for the country – population count, birth rate, marriages and mortality rate, international migration changes. The newest data indicates that in 2020, the population increased by 1.1 thousand, but over the past thirty years, it fell by a quarter. Demographer Dr Domantas Jasilionis notes that the most concerning in Lithuania is the falling birth rate, which is crucial for a country.
