EU imposes new sanctions against Belarusian officials

The European Union decided on Monday to impose new sanctions against officials of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's regime, diplomats said.

During a Monday meeting in Brussels, EU foreign affairs ministers agreed to blacklist another 19 Belarusian officials related to repressions against protesters.

"It was agreed that sanctions against 19 law enforcement officials, prosecutors, judges will be formally approved on Tuesday," a source told BNS.

These officials will be banned from traveling in the EU and their bank accounts will be frozen.

The EU previously imposed similar sanctions against over 200 Belarusian officials.
