Lithuania establishes diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis

Lithuania has officially established diplomatic relations with two Caribbean countries – the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces.

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis and members of the two countries signed the relevant communiqués in New York on the sidelines of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.

According to the ministry, the move will encourage the countries to cooperate within international organizations – the UN and their specialized agencies. Moreover, cooperation with African, Caribbean, and Pacific Ocean countries is very important in the context of EU foreign policy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Around 1.2 million people live in Trinidad and Tobago, and the population of Saint Kitts and Nevis is under 50,000 people.

Lithuania has diplomatic relations with 163 countries.
