„We have won the first fight, the second phase is still ahead – we must get the money and the money must reach the accounts of the players. We are happy to receive what we've been promised,“ Paulius Motiejunas, the head of the club, told journalists after the municipal council's vote.

In his words, it is crucial for the team to receive the money within a week. He restated warnings voiced by the players to stop paying in case of failure to get their salaries next week.

More than 50 percent of the shares of public establishment Kauno Zalgirio Remejas (Kaunas Zalgiris Supporter), which operates the basketball club, are owned by Ukio Banko Investicine Grupe (Ukio Bankas Investment Group, UBIG) controlled by businessman Vladimir Romanov. Operations of Ukio Bankas have been suspended for violations. The basketball club has lately faced major financial difficulties.
