"In response to your inquiry, we are informing you that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has no official information about Targamadze's presence in Lithuania," the ministry's Public Relations Division told BNS.

Earlier on Tuesday, Russia's news agency Interfax reported that Targamadze, comrade of Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili, had confirmed his presence in Lithuania.

According to the report, Targamadze told Georgia's TV Channel 9 he had no plans of returning to Tbilisi. He also said he would not apply to Lithuanian institutions for a status of political refugee.

He warned of his intentions of taking the Russian decision to announce an international search to the European Court of Human Rights, Interfax said.

Targamadze is an influential member of Saakashvili's opposition United National Movement party.
