Lithuanian Prime Minister plans to propose expert groups for bilateral problems during Russia visit

Lithuania's Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius says he will suggest to his Russian colleagues during the visit in St. Petersburg to set up expert groups for addressing bilateral problems.

"If we are to talk about gas or some other economic matters, the main proposal will be to have expert groups from both Russia and Lithuania to sit at a table, approve an agenda, engage in a business-like conversation and make decisions. If no decisions are made, the society should be given the reasons behind failure to achieve anything," Butkevičius told journalists on Thursday, shortly before departing for St. Petersburg.

On Wednesday, the prime minister said he intended to discuss energy and gas prices with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev. In Butkevičius' words, the Third Energy Package could be one of the problem-causing matters.

Heads of Lithuanian and Russian governments last met in March 2010. Lithuania's then prime minister Andrius Kubilius was then on a working visit in Moscow and met with Russia's PM Vladimir Putin.
