Following a meeting with Hungary's Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjen on Monday, the Lithuanian speaker said the establishment of a Lithuanian-Hungarian forum and the implementation of a youth exchange program would be a real expression of such a status.
"Analysts, NGOs, and representatives of government institutions could take part in this bilateral forum. Such meetings would be the best place to discuss energy security, transport, security and EU regional policy issues," Degutienė said in a press release.
At the meeting, the Lithuanian speaker also asked Semjen to hand over her personal invitation to Prime Minister Viktor Orban to come to Lithuania. Degutienė also handed in Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius' written invitation.
Orban paid his last visit to Lithuania in December 2010.
During her visit to Hungary, Degutienė also visited the House of Terror museum in Budapest and honored the memory of innocent victims.
The Lithuanian speaker said Hungarian and Polish Presidencies of the EU Council had significantly contributed to the perpetuation of the memory of all victims of totalitarian regimes.
"Lithuania supports the Hungarian and Polish proposal to mark a Europe-wide Day of Remembrance for the victims of all totalitarian regimes on 23 August," she said.
