Poland's Lithuanian-language magazine Aušra under threat of termination

A demand by a Polish ministry to return part of a grant may terminate publishing of a semimonthly Lithuanian-language magazine Aušra that has been in circulation for more than 50 years.

According to Lietuvos Žinios daily, the magazine is in danger after Poland's Ministry of Administration and Digitization decided that the magazine should pay back some of the 2001 grant – about 13,400 litas (EUR 3,900).

Irena Gasperavičiūtė, Aušra's editor-in-chief, says the demand is due to a revision in the interpretation of legal acts, as income received from subscription is now treated as part of the grant.
