Preparations for EFF SCANORAMA 2020 continue seamlessly: call for submissions now open

For the 11th consecutive year, European Film Forum Scanorama invites young filmmakers to participate in the New Baltic Cinema international short film competition programme. By announcing the call for applications, Scanorama is expecting works from nine Baltic Sea Region countries, to be judged and awarded by an international jury, led by distinguished European film professionals.

The deadline for submissions is August 3. Taking into account the slowdown and discontinuation of new film productions in 2020, films made from 1 January 2018 are eligible to compete, as long as they have not been publicly shown in cinemas or other Lithuanian festivals.

"This is a time of great challenges and uncertainty, but we believe that it can be the beginning of positive change. Not only are we not putting Scanorama on hold, but we are also working hard on the most exciting and meaningful film palette possible to present to our filmgoers in the autumn. The NBC therefore has a special role to play this year. It is not only an invitation for young filmmakers to showcase their talents, but also an encouragement for the film community to remain united and strong," says Gražina Arlickaitė, founder and director of the festival.

According to Ms Arlickaitė, giving a boost to young cinema talents to strive for the grand screen and take up new projects has always been the primary objective of the NBC.

The registration is open for filmmakers from nine Baltic Sea Region countries: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia and Germany.

Traditionally, an international jury will award two of the best films. Their authors will be presented with a €3,000 prize (for best Lithuanian film) established by the Audiovisual Works Copyright Association AVAKA and a €5,000 prize (for best film in the entire programme) established by Scanorama.

This year the European Film Forum „Scanorama“ will be held in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda and Šiauliai from 5 to 22 November.
