Regardless of growing Israeli investment and trade volumes, the potential is yet to be tapped to the full, said the Lithuanian prime minister.
"Lithuania possesses innovative and skilful labor, has good universities and an attractive tax system, while Israel has experience in combining business and innovations, therefore, we should develop bilateral economic and trade relations. Lithuania could become Israel’s gateway to the European Union markets," Butkevičius said.
Speaking about Lithuania's activities to foster the historic and cultural heritage of the Jewish community, he emphasized the good relations between the Lithuanian government and the Jewish community and that this year had been announced the Year of Commemoration of the Vilnius Ghetto.
"The government has approved a program, which includes as many as 38 various events intended to commemorate the Jewish Ghetto. In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of the Vilnius Ghetto, in September, Vilnius will host the Fourth World Litvak Congress. Lithuania, together with European Union partners, is fighting against manifestations of anti-Semitism, which still occur all over the world," said the prime minister.
Peres is due to wrap up his two-day state visit in Lithuania on Thursday.
