Tensions in the “Baltic Bubble”: situation deteriorates in Lithuania – even Latvia might close up?

Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were among the countries coping best with the spread of the coronavirus, gaining recognition around the world for establishing a “travel bubble” back in May. This summer, you could feel at the Latvian seaside and cities as if you hadn’t left Lithuania at all – on every corner, you would hear the Lithuanian language spoken. However, with the situation worsening in our country, the “bubble” is now threatened – the Latvians and Estonians might obtain the right to demand self-isolation from arriving Lithuanians. Minister of Healthcare Aurelijus Veryga says that everything will depend on the Latvian and Estonian governments. The Lithuanian government is in discussions with them, but cannot offer any guarantees.
