Unpublished Lithuanian book found in Titanic

An unpublished Lithuanian book is among objects retrieved from the Titanic. Lithuanian museologists have been informed that a book by Lithuanian folklorist Antanas Juška, which went down to the deep of the Atlantic Ocean together with the ship in 1912, is among artifacts that were removed from the ship, the Lithuanian Television reported on Wednesday.

Director of the Antanas and Jonas Juška Ethnic Culture Museum, Artūras Sniečkus, said that priest Juozas Montvila was taking Juška's first compilation of Lithuanian songs to America for publication. Juška was not able to publish the book himself in Kazan as he died there soon after his arrival.

In April 1912, Montvila decided to go to America and boarded the Titanic. A century after the Titanic tragedy, Lithuanian museologists received news that a bag with Lithuanian publications, including Juška's book, was retrieved from the Titanic.
