Lithuania spent millions on Ghor Province: ex-ministers disagree it was futile

Between 2005 and 2013, Lithuania was tasked with the restoration of Afghanistan’s Ghor Province. Our country spent hundreds of millions of litas back then and one of our troops – Sergeant Arūnas Jarmalavičius – died. Former ministers of national defence Juozas Olekas and Gediminas Kirkilas say that we definitely cannot say that our efforts proved futile because we offered real aid to people. However, according to them, we can now only hope that the Taliban has become more moderate.
