The competition will particularly focus on transport solutions. Transportation is one of the spheres contributing most to climate change, so changes in this domain can yield tangible results. The competition will also evaluate other environmental conservation initiatives.
“If we wish to change the situation, we must encourage concrete work and initiatives. Therefore, as we invite participation in the competition, we wish to draw attention to the potential of going green in transportation. For example, less greenhouse gasses emitted, digital solutions, energy conservation, sustainability across the entire transport system. All this is necessary so that we can transition to a climate-neutral economy,” says Mantas Bartuška, the CEO of Lietuvos Geležinkeliai, which is organising the competition.
Applications to the Žaliojo Susisiekimo Link competition can be submitted up until October 1 to the email nominacijos@ltg.lt or at https://www.litrail.lt/zaliojo-susisiekimo-link. The applications will be reviewed by a commission comprised of public and private sector experts. Nominees and winners will be introduced to the public on October 21-22, during this year’s International Transport Innovation Forum, which is organised by the Transport Innovation Association (TIA) and the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
“This year’s forum will particularly focus on the transformation and digitalisation of the transport and logistics sector over the coming decade and its further development. Green solutions and environmentally friendly initiatives are doubtless going to be among the core conditions for breakthroughs both in Lithuania and all across Europe,” TIA’s director Rugilė Andziukevičiūtė-Buzė notes.
The Green Awards will be presented in six categories during the forum: greenest municipality, greenest mobility start-up, green exports, design solutions for better transportation and intersectoral cooperation, the stimulus for green mobility, and solutions in transport and logistics digitalisation.
The greenest municipality will be chosen in consideration of its number of renovated apartment buildings, built and reconstructed pedestrian and bike paths, consumers using renewable electrical power, electric vehicles and their charging stations, as well as street lighting and non-polluting public transport. In the green export category, the product or service’s export markets, innovation, uniqueness, and influence on green transportation will be judged.
The greenest mobility start-up will also be chosen. The commission will judge innovation, breakthroughs in implementing the Green Deal’s goals, market utility, growth opportunities, and the relevance of the challenge it addresses.
Other categories are aimed at encouraging sustainable mobility measures (the use of sustainable transport to replace personal cars, the company’s contributions in reducing greenhouse gas emissions); innovative, adaptable and economically beneficial solutions in the area of transport and logistics digitalisation, as well as original design solutions created in line with environmental conservation in mind and aiming for better transportation and intersectoral cooperation.
The competition’s partners are the Ministries of Transport and Communications, Energy, Economic and Innovation, Interior, Environment, and Culture, and the Transport Innovation Association.
