Former chairman of Lithuanian Constitutional Court Egidijus Kūris appointed ECHR judge

Former judge of Lithuania's Constitutional Court Egidijus Kūris has been appointed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

His appointment was on Tuesday approved by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

Kūris will start his nine-year term in the Strasbourg-based court that addresses violations of the European Convention of Human Rights on November 1.

Kūris, a law professor, was the chairman of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court in 2002-2008.
