Lithuania's Foreign Minister calls on Lithuanian Americans to support energy projects

Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis, currently on a visit to the United States, has called on Lithuanian Americans to join efforts in attracting support for projects aimed at ensuring energy independence of Lithuania.

The minister expressed his position at meetings with the Lithuanian community in Atlanta where he presented Lithuania's key foreign policy priorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

"We have created proper instruments for the development of constructive cooperation, and we can and have to implement meaningful projects in the areas of economy, culture, science, etc. We have to step up political lobbyism on strategic issues important for Lithuania," the said.

Ažubalis also stressed that the United States remained the backbone of Lithuania's security.

Based on 2010 census figures, around 600,000 people of Lithuanian origin live in America.
