12 percent of Lithuanians spend more than they earn

Some 47 percent of people living in Lithuania's five major cities say that they are spending everything they earn and 12.4 percent say that their spending exceeds their income, according to a poll published by the weekly magazine Veidas.

Asked if they managed to save for a rainy day, 38.2 percent of respondents said that were able to set aside some money and 1.4 percent said that they were able to make considerable savings.

In a similar poll conducted two years ago, nearly 60 percent of those polled said that they were spending everything they earned and 18.6 percent said that they were able to make some savings.

Prime Consulting polled 500 residents of the country's five major cities for the Veidas magazine on 28 to 30 May.
