Klaipėdos Jūrų Krovinių Kompanija (KLASCO), the leading stevedoring company that completed a 23-million-litas (EUR 6.67m) investment project on the expansion of its grain terminal, is ready to handle approximately 1 million tons of cereals within a season from one harvest to another.
However, it is wary of making any specific projections since Russia, which started shipping grain through KLASCO terminals last year, has lowered its grain export forecasts by 25 percent.
Still, KLASCO had already made contracts with four carriers for Russian grain, KLASCO commerce director, Vytautas Kaunas, told the daily.
Last year the company reloaded some 25,000 tons of grain from Russia. In total, KLASCO handled 680,000 tons of grain until this season. Early this week, the company held 30,000 tons of cereals in its warehouses.
Grain handling comprises approximately 6 percent of total cargo turnover at KLASCO.
