The works started on weekend, the port of Klaipėda said in a press release.
The project is particularly important for the port since its fairway will widen to 150 meters, from 120 meters, and the depth of navigation channel will increase to 14.5 meters, from 13-13.5 meters.
“With such navigation channel parameters achieved, the port will be able to handle longer and wider Post-Panamax vessels that are 300-310 meters long and 40 meters wide,” the port said.
The port’s authority intends to spend record 291 million litas on investment projects this year. Last year the port invested 144 million litas.
