Panther International has decided to close down one facility in the town of Lohne. Eighty workers will be laid off and the equipment will be relocated to Baltik Vairas factory in Šiauliai. The management and sales staff will continue to operate from Lohne.
"The group will close down its smallest factory," Lietuvos Rytas quoted Baltik Vairas CEO Dirk Zwick.
Bicycles with electric motors now make up a small part of the production at the Šiauliai factory. A new line with an annual capacity of 50,000 electric bikes has been installed in the facility.
With the closed German factory's orders being relocated to Šiauliai, Baltik Vairas expects to produce another 25,000 electric bikes in a season.
