Approximately 9.4 million litas worth of pipes for the line will be supplied by Turkey’s leading steel pipe manufacturer Borusan Mannesmann.

The pipeline is part of an approximately 168 million-litas-worth project for constructiing a gas pipeline between Jurbarkas and Klaipėda, which is necessary for the functioning of the prospective liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the Lithuanian port.

The German concern, which placed the lowest bid, won a respective tender announced by Lietuvos Dujos (Lithuanian Gas). The Lithuanian gas imports and transportation company reported in the official gazette Valstybės Žinios on Friday that it would sign a 28.41 million litas worth contract with PPS Pipeline Systems. Construction works should be carried out in a ten-month period.

The contract with Turkish pipe manufacturer was signed on 10 January, Jolita Butkienė, Lietuvos Dujos’ representative, told BNS.

Early in January, Lietuvos Dujos announced a preliminary tender to find a contractor that would build gas supply mains between Tauragė and Klaipėda. The final tender would be announced soon, Jonas Janulionis, Lietuvos Dujos’ Technical Director, told BNS.

The project has been split in three sections – Jurbarkas-Tauragė, Tauragė-Šilutė and Šilutė-Klaipėda.

The line between Jurbarkas and Klaipėda is necessary for integrating the LNG terminal into Lithuania’s gas supply system. The terminal should be built in Klaipėda by December 2014. The gas transmission section between Jurbarkas and Klaipėda should be put in service in 2013.

The government has allocated 80.229 million litas in EU support for the 168 million litas project.
