Latvia's Tilts may bag major contract from Lithuanian road administration

Latvia's bridge construction company Tilts is likely to receive a contract worth 5.13 million litas (EUR 1.5m), including VAT, from the Lithuanian Road Administration, marking its first order for work on Lithuania's main motorway linking Vilnius to Klaipėda via Kaunas.

BNS has unofficial information that Tilts, together with French-owned Eurovia Lietuva, has placed the lowest price offer in a tender issued by the authority for upgrading a section of the motorway. Kauno Tiltai, the largest road and bridge construction company in the Baltics, offered to do the work for 5.55 million litas. The latter company was involved in the construction of the motorway several decades ago and has received most orders for upgrading the road.

Remigijus Lipkevičius, head of the Investment Division at the Lithuanian Road Administration, told BNS that they expect to name the winning bidder by mid-September.

The official said that Latvian companies have until now mostly worked as sub-contractors on the motorway. He said that the wining bidder will have to build two underpasses under the road.

Latvijas Tilti has bagged major orders for building quays in the port of Klaipėda and a street in Vilnius.
