The Finance Ministry proposes to open negotiations and initial a Lithuanian-Qatari agreement to avoid double taxation on income and capital and to prevent tax evasion, according to a draft government resolution drawn up by the ministry.

Qatar, whose representatives visited Lithuania in May, is a potential supplier of liquefied natural gas to Lithuania's planned LNG terminal in Klaipėda. Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė visited Qatar in April.

Rokas Masiulis, chief executive officer of Klaipėdos Nafta (Klaipėda Oil), state-run company that is implementing the LNG terminal project, has said that Qatar is interested in supplying gas to the facility.

Potential gas suppliers for Lithuania's LNG terminal include the United States, Norway, and Arab countries.
