Lithuania's average annual inflation 0.6 points above EU average

Lithuania's EU-harmonized average annual inflation rate last year reached 3.2 percent, 0.6 percentage points above the EU average of 2.6 percent, preliminary data from the EU statistical office Eurostat showed on Wednesday.

Higher average 12-month inflation rates, as measured by the EU Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), in December were recorded in Hungary, at 5.7 percent, Estonia, at 4.2 percent, Poland and Slovakia, at 3.7 percent each, the Czech Republic, at 3.5 percent, Romania, at 3.4 percent, and Italy, at 3.3 percent.

Latvia's average annual inflation rate last month was lower at 2.3 percent. 

Month-on-month, consumer prices edged down by 0.1 percent in Lithuania, held steady in Estonia, and inched up by 0.1 percent in Latvia. The EU's monthly inflation rate was 0.3 percent.

Lithuania's annual inflation rate in December reached 2.9 percent. Estonia's rate was higher at 3.6 percent, and Latvia's rate was lower at 1.6 percent. The EU's annual inflation rate was 2.3 percent.
