Lukoil Baltija says that imports are determined by economic factors, noting that Orlen Lietuva, the only crude refinery in the Baltics, responded to competition back in 2010 by offering more favorable pricing.
"We import some fuel, but not much. When we launched imports in 2010, volumes were larger. Everything depends on economics," the paper quoted Raimundas Dabravalskis, Lukoil Baltija's supply and wholesale trade director, as saying.
Dabravalskis thinks that fuel imports, launched more than two years ago, remain competitive.
The company sells fuel imported by sea in western Lithuania, because increased logistic expenses make it cost-inefficient to transport fuel, for example, to Kaunas, he said.
