Lithuania’s fuel traders hope warm weather will lift sales in August

Lithuania’s fuel traders expected their sales to improve in summer, since preliminary polls signaled that people would this year spend more on vacations than last year and would buy more fuel. However, fuel consumption fell to record lows in June compared with the same period last year, the Lietuvos Rytas daily reports.

In June, gasoline sales fell by 14.3 percent from the same month last year.

Giedrius Bandzevičius, director of sales and supply department at Statoil Lietuva, believes that the sales results might have been affected by rainy weekends.

Businessmen believe that the situation will improve in July and August.

“I think this summer will still be better than last year. This can in particular be seen from the performance of gas stations on highways – the sales there have actually been surging,” Bandzevičius said.
