Lithuania’s meat processors will have to change export direction

Beef purchase prices will fall and Lithuania’s meat processors will have to change their export geography, the country’s meat packers have said in response to Russia’s decision to ban imports of chilled beef and pork from Lithuania, the Verslo Žinios business daily reports on Wednesday.

“We used to sell almost all beef in the East. Now we will no longer be able to export there. We have not exported any pork this year due to its shortage,” Augenijus Gudziūnas, CEO of meat processing company Agrovet, told the daily.

He projected that cattle purchase prices would start falling in several weeks’ time due to decline in demand.
