Lithuania‘s Prime Minister expects shale gas exploration deal with US Chevron to be signed by May

Lithuania ’s Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius believes that the deal with the US energy giant Chevron on shale gas exploration in Western Lithuania may be signed by May after the adoption of the required legislative amendments by the parliament (Seimas).

“I expect them [the amendments] to be adopted within three weeks after Easter at best. Let’s hope that we could start speaking about the beginning of exploration works early in May,” he said during a news conference on Thursday.

“I think it’s only the signing that has been postponed now, until the emotions cool down, until they agree with the members of the community and until the legislative amendments are passed”, Butkevicius said.
