Lithuania's renewable energy consumption above EU average

Renewable energy consumption in Lithuania exceeded the European Union’s (EU) average in 2010, figures from the Eurostat have shown.

The share of renewable energy in total consumption in Lithuania in 2010 narrowed to 19.7 percent, from 20 percent in 2009, and was well behind the EU leaders in this area, i.e. Sweden with 47.9 percent and Latvia with 32.6 percent.

Between 2006 and 2010, the largest increase in the share of renewable energy in total consumption was recorded in Estonia (from 16.1 pct in 2006 to 24.3 pct in 2010).

Across the EU, energy from renewable sources was estimated to have contributed 12.4 percent of gross final energy consumption in 2010, up from 11.7 percent in 2009.
