Lithuania's telecommunication market shrinks

Lithuania's electronic communications market shrank to 2.39 billion litas (EUR 692.75 mln) last year, down 7 percent from 2.572 billion litas in 2010, BNS calculated, based on data from the Communications Regulatory Authority.

In the fourth quarter alone, the telecommunications market reached 598.8 million litas, down by 5 percent year-on-year, but up 0.1 percent quarter-on-quarter, authorities said in a preliminary quarterly report on Monday.

Mobile communications operators' full-year revenues came in at 944 million litas, down 4.1 percent from 984.1 million litas the previous year. The mobile penetration rate at the end of December stood at 154.3 percent, 2.7 percentage points higher than in late September.

Landline phone operators saw their annual revenues drop by 10.7 percent to 270.3 million litas.

LAst year, telecommunication companies invested a total of 356.2 million litas in the electronic communications network infrastructure, up 14.6 percent from 310.8 million litas a year ago.
