Lithuania uses 23 million euros in carbon credit money to buy buses

The Lithuanian Environment Ministry has allocated 100 million litas (EUR 29m) of the 500 million litas raised by the country through the sale of carbon dioxide emission allowances to purchase buses, with 80 million litas of the money used in May, the daily Lietuvos Žinios reports.

As a result of this, new bus and coach registrations in Lithuania soared by 283.3 percent to 23 in May, from six in the same period last year, according to figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).

Lithuania's new bus and coach registrations in the first five months of this year surged by 77.8 percent year-on-year to 80 units.
