Lithuanian airports serve 1.5 million passengers in six months

A total of 1.5 million passengers went through Lithuania's airports during the first half of this year, up by 23 percent compared with a year ago, preliminary data from Statistics Lithuania show.

The largest passenger numbers flew to and from the United Kingdom (350,400, or 23.6 percent of the total number), Germany (166,000, or 11.2 percent), Latvia (101,300, or 6.8 percent), Denmark (93,900, or 6.3 percent) and Ireland (91,600, or 6.2 percent).

The total number of arrivals and departures by local and foreign-owned aircraft rose by 9.7 percent year-on-year to 20,500, the statistics office said.

Lithuanian air carriers alone posted a 38.9 percent increase to 244,800 in passenger numbers.

The country's airports handled a total of 5,900 tons of cargo and mail during the first half, down 5.6 percent from a year ago.
