Lithuanian businessman buys Georgia’s PIK TV channel

Jurgelevičius Šviesa, a company controlled by Lithuanian businessman Darius Jurgelevičius, has acquired 60 percent of shares in PIK, a Georgian TV channel broadcast in the Russian language, the news portal lrytas.lt reports.

The shares in the TV channel were acquired on 29 October. In line with the terms of the deal, the company will have to invest 1.5 million laris (approx. LTL 2.4m, EUR 0.7m) in the TV channel over a five-year period.

Jurgelevičius, who now resides in Georgia, would not make any comments, lrytas.lt said.

Jurgelevičius’ work history includes employment with M-1, a commercial radio station, the Foreign Ministry, and the State Security Department. After moving to Georgia, he worked as an adviser to Georgia’s Interior Minister, and later, to Georgia’s Prime Minister. He now holds dual citizenship and resides in Tbilisi.
