Government officials and parliamentarians say that to do so requires making a political decision, which can hardly be expected before this autumn's general elections, it wrote.
Two associations - the Lithuanian Real Estate Development Association and the Lithuanian Industrialists' Confederation - have drafted a bill that calls for taxing all real estate, including buildings, infrastructure and land, and plan to submit it to the government in the near future.
"We propose to establish common rules for taxing all real estate. That would be simpler for both businesses and for the tax administrator and municipalities," said Gediminas Rainys, acting president of the Industrialists' Confederation.
The legislation would replace the Law on Land Tax, which was amended at the end of last year, paving the way for municipalities to sharply increase the tax on land under industrial facilities. The tax rates now range between 0.1 and 4 percent.
