The representatives of the emerging energy segment agree with the proposed review for future projects but warn that any measures taken against existing projects would amount to the breach of legal expectations, which would be challenged in courts, the Verslo Žinios business daily reports on Wednesday.
“This is important to do as soon as possible in order to safeguard the interests of all electricity consumers and prevent an increase in electricity prices,” the ministry said in comments about the amendments to the law on renewable energy.
The ministry estimates that with all permits issued put in use, the prices of electricity would increase by 0.05-0.06 litas (EUR 0.014-0.017) per 1 kWh.
“Some of the permits were issued right before the New Year and the Energy Ministry even failed to issue some of them in time due to a large inflow of applications. Therefore the deadline of March 1, 2013, which has been set for getting a generation permit, is unrealistic,” Julija Kirkilienė, a lawyer with the law firm Borenius, told the daily.
