Vaidotas Balynas, the company’s deputy director of law and personnel department, has been appointed to head the office.
“The decision to open a representative office in China was taken considering the general global economic and geopolitical trends. It will enable us to be more active in the huge market for cargo transportation between Asia and Europe, to create new products and to develop existing and successful products, such as the container train Saulė,” Balynas said in a press release.
In 2011, Lithuania’s exports to China totaled 199.4 million litas (EUR 57.8m), and imports from that country reached 1.6 billion litas.
The shuttle container train Saulė running between China and Europe was launched late last year.
