Lithuanian tourists abroad spent 112 million euros in three months

Lithuanian tourists spent a total of 386 million litas (EUR 112 m) while traveling abroad during the first quarter of the year, a rise of 12.8 percent on the same time last year, Statistics Lithuania said on Friday.

Spendings by domestic tourists traveling inside Lithuania with at least one overnight stay and by one-day tourists increased by 3.4 percent year-on-year to 65.7 million litas.

The total number of people traveling from Lithuania abroad increased by 17 percent over the reporting period to 217,500 people. The total number of trips was up by 11.6 percent to 282,900 trips, with personal trips accounting for 76 percent of all trips and business trips for 24 percent.

The United Kingdom was the most popular destination in the first quarter with 44,500 tourists, or 15.7 percent of all Lithuanian travelers, followed by Poland with 32,300, or 11.4 percent, and Belarus with 26,700, or 9.5 percent.

The number of domestic trips with at least one overnight stay rose by 3.1 percent to 443,900, while the number of one-day trips fell by 5.5 percent to 1.79 million.
