“As we can see, the situation has not changed much over seven years. The percentage of population with intentions to search for a job in other countries is roughly the same. However, we have noticed that, contrary to previous years, those intending to look for a job abroad now include people with high income, higher education and those occupying higher positions,” Inga Nausėdienė, RAIT chairwoman, said in a press release.
Back in 2010, people intending to look for a job abroad mostly included the youth (aged between 15 and 24 years), students, people with lower income (of up to 600 litas, EUR 173.9, per household member) and people with secondary education.
“It shows that the situation in the country is not getting better and is starting to affect other social groups,” Nausėdienė said.
Some 84 percent of the polled said that they did not intend to leave the country. Slightly less than one-tenth – or 9 percent – said that their family members intended to go abroad to work or look for a job within the next twelve months.
The poll showed that men aged 25 to 34 years, people with higher education and higher-than-average income, as well as the unemployed, unskilled workers, specialists, executives, and company owners were the ones most inclined to leave.
Slightly less than one-third – 31 percent – of those planning to leave said that they intended to go to the UK and 28 percent mentioned Norway. Some 11 percent said that they would search for a job in Germany and 9 percent chose Ireland.
RAIT polled 1,038 Lithuania’s permanent residents aged between 15 and 74 years between 11 and 25 July.
