Orlen's refinery contributes 4.5 percent of Lithuania's budget revenue

The daily business paper released its list of Lithuania's top 50 taxpayers in 2011, based on data from the State Tax Inspectorate.

Last year, Orlen Lietuva paid 1.279 billion litas (EUR 370.7 m) in taxes, lifting the whole industrial sector into second place. This is 347 million litas more than the combined contribution of almost 300 companies operating in the sectors of information technologies and communications, restaurants and cafes, hotels and tourism, advertising and marketing, and media and finance, which paid a total of 932 million litas in taxes last year.

Orlen Lietuva's contribution would account for around 6 percent of the total budget revenues projected for 2012 excluding EU funds, or some 4.5 percent including the EU's money.

However, financial analysts say that a disruption of the oil company's operations would not pose a great risk to the budget, according to Verslo Žinios.
