Over fifth of Lithuanian drivers buy fuel outside gas stations

More than one-fifth – or 22 percent – of Lithuania’s drivers buy fuel in places other than gas stations – 15 percent buy cheaper fuel at marketplaces and in other locations, and 7 percent in Kaliningrad, Belarus or Poland, the latest survey by the market research company RAIT has shown.

Some 50 percent of the polled said that they had not changed their fuel consumption habits this year, 41 percent of car owners reduced fuel consumption compared with the same period last year, and 6 percent consumed more fuel than last year, the survey showed. Some 3 percent of the polled would not say how their fuel consumption habits had changed this year.

More than half – or 54 percent – of car owners used diesel fuel, 37 percent used 95-grade gasoline, 11 percent – gas, and 4 percent – 98-grade gasoline.

More than one-third – or 36 percent – of the polled said that they did not have a car.

RAIT polled 1,006 people aged 15 to 74 years on 10 to 22 April.
