Over two thirds of Lithuania's population use internet

Some 69 percent of Lithuania’s population used Internet at the end of 2011, up 11.5 percentage points from 57.5 percent in 2010, the latest survey commissioned by the Information Society Development Committee (IVPK) has shown.

Some 92 percent of all users, or 63 percent of the population, surfe the net regularly (at least once a week).

The percentage of internet users is highest among 15 to 19-year-olds, 96.9 percent, and in the age group of 20-29, 94.6 percent. 

The percentage of internet users among people of 60 to 74 year old increased to 26.6 percent, from 11.6 percent previously, and in the age group of 50-59 – to 51 percent, from 35 percent.

Some 80.8 percent of all internet users mage use of search engines while browsing the net, 73.8 percent checked their e-mails, and 21.3 percent purchased goods or services online.

Market researcher TNS LT surveyed 1,592 Lithuanians in the final quarter of 2011.
