Pohjola Bank targets biggest companies in Lithuania

The Lithuanian branch office of Finland's Pohjola Bank, which opened for business on Tuesday, will provide services only to large companies in the near future, Mikael Silvennoinen, the bank's president and CEO, said in an interview to the business daily Verslo Zinios published on Wednesday.

„The number of large companies is smaller, so the bank does not need to establish a lot of units to be able to serve customers. In small countries like Lithuania or Finland, you can manage with a single bank unit if you serve only large companies. When you have fewer but larger customers, it is easier to analyze and assess the risk. Therefore, we decided to focus on the biggest Lithuanian companies,“ Silvennoinen said.

For now, the bank targets around 200 largest Lithuanian companies and those related with Finland, the CEO said.

„In the coming years, we do not have plans to start providing banking services to retail customers in any of the Baltic countries,“ he added.
