Prime Minister: Barclays scandal won't affect its Lithuanian unit

Rate-fixing scandal that has recently shook British bank Barclays will have no effect on the operations of its Lithuanian unit, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius has said on Tuesday.

"Let me remind you that Barclays established an engineering services center in Lithuania. It has no direct links with banking operations," he told Lithuanian Radio.

Barclays' engineering services center in Lithuania is successfully expanding and is unlikely to be affected by the interbank rate-fixing scandal, Kubilius has said.

Last month, Barclays was fined 435 million US dollars by US and British agencies for making false reports on its borrowing costs.
