Russia accounts for more than half of Lithuania’s electricity imports

Lithuania imported 8.561 billion kWh of electricity in 2012, 56.2 percent of which, or 4.811 billion kWh, was imported from Russia, Litgrid reported.

Imports from Latvia totaled 1.856 billion kWh (21.7 percent of the total), from Estonia, 1.605 billion kWh (18.7 percent), and from Belarus, 289.8 million kWh (3.4 percent), the electricity transmission system operator said on Tuesday.

Exports of electricity generated in Lithuania last year totaled 1.942 billion kWh, 85.9 percent of which, or 1.668 billion kWh, went to Latvia.

Exports to Belarus made up 148.3 million kWh (7.6 percent of the total), and to Estonia, 126.3 million kWh (6.5 percent).
