Russian company to produce sapphires in Kaunas

A project to launch the production of aluminum oxide crystals, or industrial sapphires, in Kaunas free economic area next year will bring an investment of 41 million litas (EUR 11.9m) into the Lithuanian chemical industry, the business daily Verslo Žinios reports.

"This is a new business area in Lithuania," it quoted  Kristina Alyabyeva, the CEO of Rokor, a high-tech company investing in the production of industrial sapphires (corundum) as saying.

Rokor was registered in Lithuania a year ago. It is linked to Rokor, a research and production firm that has been operating in Russia since 1994 and that will transfer its experience, knowledge, and part of technologies to the new company.
