The panel said that the advertisement offering to acquire a Samsung Galaxy Note at half a price, which was aired on TV and radio at the initiative of Latvia’s Samsung Electronics Baltics, was misleading. The campaign was held at the outlet of mobile operator Omnitel in the Panorama mall in Vilnius on one Saturday last November.

“The ad gave the impression to the consumers that they could acquire a Samsung Galaxy Note at half of its usual price without additional terms and conditions. However, it has been established that there have been additional terms and conditions, which have not been mentioned in the ad aired on TV and radio,” the watchdog said in a press release on Tuesday.

The buyers had to sign a 24-month contract in order to use the offer advertised.

The panel established the fine considering that the misleading ad had been aired intensively yet not for long.

The investigation, which was launched in mid-February, was triggered by a complaint received from Tele2, another of Lithuania’s mobile operators.
