SEB's Litectus to buy former Lietuva cinema in Vilnius

Lithuania's real estate management company Litectus, which is owned by Sweden's financial group SEB, is to purchase the now derelict building of the Lietuva Cinema, once the largest movie theater in Vilnius, for 10.931 million litas (EUR 3.17 mln), including VAT.

Litectus CEO Edvinas Malevskis confirmed to BNS that his company, the only bidder, had been named the winner of the auction.

Robertas Dumbliauskas, the auctioneer, declined to disclose the name of the winner to BNS, saying that he would do so after the signing of a sale-purchase agreement.

The Lietuva Cinema, which is now owned by the real estate project company Rojaus Apartamentai, is being sold with its buildings and the right to lease the land plot. SEB Bankas, the company's creditor, initiated bankruptcy proceedings against it in 2009.

Rojaus Apartamentai had plans to invest 25 million to 30 million litas in building a multi-functional complex with a two-screen theater on the site of the Lietuva Cinema. According to press reports, the investors purchased the building for around 14.5 million litas.

Attempts to auction the former movie theater in the Old Town of Vilnius at starting prices of 14.348 million litas and 18.838 million litas failed last year.

The movie theater was closed back in 2005.
